Work Arrangement: Hybrid 3 days - Downtown Vancouver

Vacancy: This posting is for a currently vacant role, and the successful candidate will be hired into an existing open position.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test and operate end-to-end features across Angular front-end applications and Java/Spring Boot microservices.
- Build responsive, accessible and maintainable user interfaces using Angular, TypeScript, HTML and CSS.
- Design and implement secure RESTful APIs, reusable services and integrations using Java, Spring Boot and Spring Cloud.
- Develop event-driven and asynchronous solutions using Kafka, including producers, consumers, schema evolution, retries, idempotency and error-handling patterns.
- Apply algorithms, data structures, design patterns and engineering practices to create sustainable client-side and server-side applications.
- Ensure solutions are highly available, observable, resilient and supportable through automated testing, logging, monitoring and performance engineering.
- Work with product owners, business analysts and systems analysts to translate user needs into pragmatic technical designs and incremental deliverables.
- Collaborate with onshore and offshore engineers across frontend, backend, quality, architecture, platform and operations teams.
- Use coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Codex and Claude to accelerate development, test creation, documentation, code exploration and refactoring while validating generated output for security, correctness and maintainability.
- Provide technical leadership through task assignments, design reviews, pull request reviews, mentoring and engineering standards.
- Contribute to CI/CD, release and configuration management, and assist with troubleshooting and resolution of production issues.
- Continuously improve engineering quality, developer experience, security and delivery practices.
Qualifications, Skills, Experience and Personal Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience building modern front-end applications and backend microservices.
- Strong hands-on experience with Angular and TypeScript, including component design, state management, routing, forms, reusable UI patterns and front-end testing.
- Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and microservices using Java, Spring Boot and Spring Cloud.
- Practical experience with Kafka or Confluent Kafka and event-driven architectures is required.
- Must have proficiency in using coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Codex and Claude as part of the software development lifecycle, with sound judgment regarding validation, security, privacy and code quality.
- Experience with automated unit, integration, contract and end-to-end testing for frontend and backend solutions.
- Experience with AWS cloud services and cloud-native application development from a developer perspective.
- Experience with containers and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Working knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases; Snowflake experience is an asset.
- Understanding of DevOps practices and experience with CI/CD pipelines, observability and production support.
- Strong code-review, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with close attention to reliability, performance and security.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, communicate clearly with technical and non-technical partners, and mentor other engineers.
- Familiarity with delivery and collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, Slack, Microsoft 365, SharePoint and Smartsheet.
