Industra Construction Corp. is seeking a Senior Accounts Payable Coordinator to join our Finance team in Surrey, reporting to the Director of Finance.
This role is for someone who loves AP. You take pride in getting the details right, you know construction payables inside out, and you see AP as a long-term career, not a stepping stone. You will be our go-to expert for full-cycle accounts payable in a fast-paced, project-based environment, managing high-volume vendor and subcontractor payables, holdbacks and sales tax compliance, and supporting the month-end close.
We are also looking for someone who thinks ahead. As Industra continues to grow, we want to keep finding better ways of working, and we would love you to help shape how AP uses automation, AI and new technology to work smarter.
Industra is a rapidly growing, multi-disciplined, self-perform General Contractor delivering water and wastewater treatment, industrial, civil infrastructure and remote northern projects across Canada.
Key Responsibilities
- Own full-cycle AP for a high volume of vendor and subcontractor invoices, ensuring accurate coding to jobs, cost codes and GL accounts.
- Perform two- and three-way matching against purchase orders, receiving documents, subcontracts and change orders, and resolve discrepancies with project teams and vendors.
- Build strong relationships with Project Managers, site teams and vendors, coordinating timely invoice approvals and resolving questions quickly and professionally.
- Prepare weekly payment runs (EFT and cheque) with the proper approvals and supporting documentation in place.
- Maintain the vendor master file, including independent verification of banking detail changes to protect against payment fraud.
- Administer subcontractor holdbacks in line with the BC Builders Lien Act and other applicable provincial legislation, tracking balances, release dates and required documentation.
- Confirm subcontractor compliance before payment, including WorkSafeBC clearance letters and certificates of insurance.
- Review GST and PST treatment on vendor invoices, maintain PST exemption documentation and support annual T5018 reporting.
- Support month-end and year-end close, including AP-to-GL reconciliations, accruals, credit card reconciliations, vendor statement reviews and audit schedules.
- Prepare weekly AP aging and cash requirement reports for management.
- Drive process improvement by identifying opportunities for automation, AI and technology to make AP faster and more accurate, and maintain AP procedures and internal controls.
- Act as the primary contact for AP inquiries, including the AP inbox, and share knowledge and provide backup across the accounting team.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive full-cycle Accounts Payable experience, with a genuine enjoyment of AP and a desire to build a long-term career in it.
- Experience in construction or another project-based industry, including job costing and subcontractor payables, is strongly preferred.
- Solid working knowledge of holdback administration, the Builders Lien Act and GST/PST as they apply to construction.
- Tech-savvy and curious: comfortable learning new systems, with intermediate Excel skills (XLOOKUP, pivot tables) and Microsoft 365. Experience with Viewpoint Spectrum or another construction ERP is an asset.
- Strong understanding of AP internal controls and fraud prevention practices.
- Excellent communicator who builds strong working relationships with vendors, subcontractors and project teams.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume environment without compromising accuracy.
- Post-secondary education in accounting or finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; progress toward a CPA designation is an asset.
Benefits (Available from Day One)
We offer a competitive benefits package including Dental care, Extended health and vision care, Disability and life insurance, RRSP matching, Paid time off, On-site paid parking and quarterly bonus.
