Boundary Bay race on November 1: sort out transport before booking

The 2026 Boundary Bay race is Sunday, November 1, with 5 km, 10 km, half marathon, marathon and four-person relay choices. Transport needs planning: the organiser requests shuttle booking for late arrivals, late registrations and people not carpooling.

Book the journey as carefully as the distance

For an out-of-town runner, reaching Centennial Beach on a Sunday morning can take as much thought as choosing a race distance. Start with the November 1 event instructions and the place you will stay. Then compare the complete trip, including the last connection, before treating an airport fare estimate as the travel budget.

Why travel is part of the race choice

An August 22, 2026 DeltaBC visitor question asked how to get from Vancouver airport to the Boundary Bay race area. Replies differed between a public-transit chain and the simpler but costlier taxi or ride-hail option. One warned that the hotel location and start-line transport mattered more than reaching Ladner alone.

Those estimates are not current fares or guaranteed arrival times. Plan the route from the actual accommodation to Centennial Beach, not just from the airport to any stop in Delta. Check the return trip too.

Pick the distance and final price together

The organiser lists last-chance entry prices of $63 for 5 km, $68 for 10 km, $98 for the half, $118 for the marathon and $262 for the four-person relay. GST and processing charges are extra. Verify the checkout total and availability before paying.

The course is described as flat gravel and out-and-back. That can make the route simple to follow, but flat does not mean sheltered from weather. A note says the marathon course may change because of Mud Bay foreshore works. Use the final course instructions rather than saving an old map.

Make the start less rushed

Choose transport before purchasing a non-refundable hotel or planning a tight flight connection. Follow the organiser’s shuttle instructions and package-pickup details. A fixed race start has less room for a missed connection than a casual waterfront walk.

Flat is only one part of choosing a race

The April 2026 running discussion liked Boundary Bay as a local flat course but warned that November weather could be uncertain. A much older March 2020 discussion was less enthusiastic about a first full marathon, citing wind, cold and gravel while preferring the shorter distances. Those accounts do not establish the current support layout. They do explain why “flat” should not be the only word used to choose your event.

Choose the distance that matches your preparation, then build the travel plan around its current start instructions. A 5 km outing and a marathon may share the same venue but ask for very different time, food, clothing and recovery plans. If a friend is coming only to support you, give them a meeting point and a realistic finish window rather than assuming they will wait comfortably outside for the whole day.

The last connection is the part worth solving early

The August 2026 airport-travel thread disagreed about the best way to arrive. Some preferred a direct taxi or rideshare. Others found the train and bus journey to Ladner Exchange straightforward, then suggested a shorter final ride. That is a real choice between simplicity and possible savings, not a single fare quote. The right answer depends on the accommodation, luggage and Sunday timetable, as well as the airport.

Before paying, write down the actual route to Centennial Beach and the return after the race. Include the organiser’s shuttle instructions if they apply to you. A hotel described as being in Delta may still be inconvenient for the start. Keep registration and transport spending in the same budget: a cheaper entry or flight is little help if the remaining connection is costly or cannot get you there on time. Use current booking and service information for those decisions.
