The Surrey School District respectfully acknowledges that our schools reside on the traditional, unceded, and shared territories of Coast Salish peoples: The q̓ ícə̓ y̓ - Katzie, the qʼwa:n̓ƛʼən̓ - Kwantlen and the SEMYOME - Semiahmoo First Nations, who have been stewards of this land since time immemorial.

Surrey Schools values an inclusive school district where equity is deeply embedded, and diversity welcomed. We acknowledge the profound responsibility we all have in ensuring that our schools and district sites foster an atmosphere where everyone feels secure, respected, and valued. Our commitment to providing a quality education extends beyond academic excellence; we are committed to creating and cultivating diverse, inclusive, and barrier-free environments for all applicants, employees, students, and their families. Our identity, as Surrey Schools, is expressed in the shared values of openness, fairness and tolerance and recognizes the importance of diversity of identity and thought. We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applicants from all backgrounds.

THE ROLE

Students typically take this course as a pathway to finding a future in the automotive industry. Often, students take this course as a pre-requisite for the Automotive Ace-It Program offered by the Surrey SD, and they need to have a baseline standard of automotive knowledge before they are accepted into the program. Most of the students do not have Automotive at their home schools or L/C, yet they are looking for a deep level of knowledge they can take with them after a semester at QECE.

Job Requirements

Experience and/or training teaching adult learners.
Degree/Certification as Automotive Mechanic.
Have knowledge of and understand the principles and workings of vehicle systems.
Understand engine operation, including disassembly, service, reassembly.
Knowledge of specialty tools and procedures for servicing engines while assembly / disassembly is in process
Be comfortable teaching a variety of service procedures.
Be able to engage in additional teachings form the textbook.
Previous experience in automotive industry.
Must be a member of the Teachers Regulation Branch.

The successful candidate would need to be confident with and passionate about the content of the course. Course delivery is divided between classroom theory and auto shop practical learning.

Salary range is $57,972 to $106,217, with placement on the range based on length of service, FTE and qualifications in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
