We are seeking an Electronics Hardware Engineer with strong, practical experience in electronic circuit design, schematics, and PCB layout. This hands-on role contributes to new product development and lifecycle enhancements for existing products, working closely with our firmware, software, and mechanical engineering teams.
Core Responsibilities
- Design and develop PCB schematics, layouts, and analog and digital circuits for new and existing audio and communication products.
- Collaborate with firmware, software, and mechanical engineering teams to integrate hardware and bring new prototypes and platforms into operation.
- Bring up, test, and commission prototype boards, including bench soldering, wiring, and hardware rework or modifications as required.
- Review component datasheets, select parts for new designs, and evaluate and qualify alternate components based on performance, cost, and supply-chain availability.
- Conduct design reviews, troubleshoot complex hardware issues, and improve product performance and reliability.
- Document designs, technical decisions, schematics, and engineering specifications.
- Develop and execute design verification test plans, develop production test plans, and design automated test jigs for production validation.
- Carry out board re-spins and revisions for feature enhancements, reliability, and cost reduction.
- Evaluate emerging hardware technologies and apply practical solutions to design challenges.
- Take ownership of assigned hardware deliverables and technical milestones, providing realistic estimates and communicating progress, risks, and dependencies.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Degree, diploma, or certificate in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of hands-on hardware engineering experience with demonstrated strength in schematic capture, circuit design, and multi-layer PCB layout.
- Strong analog and digital circuit design capabilities, with a solid grasp of signal integrity, power distribution and management, and EMI/EMC design considerations.
- Proficiency with industry-standard PCB design suites, such as Altium Designer.
- Proficiency with bench test equipment, including oscilloscopes and multimeters, and strong root-cause troubleshooting skills.
- Practical familiarity with microcontroller-based architectures and embedded peripherals, including I2C, SPI, UART, and Ethernet.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical trade-offs to cross-functional engineering peers.
- Proactive, self-directed work ethic with the ability to ramp up quickly on new tools and hardware platforms.
- Unrestricted authorization to work in Canada without employer sponsorship.
Additional Assets
- Familiarity with logic analyzers and spectrum analyzers.
- Direct experience designing with Texas Instruments (TI) analog/power components and embedded processors.
- Experience with low-power circuit design, power-over-Ethernet (PoE), or audio/voice-frequency circuits.
- Familiarity with microcontrollers using ARM Cortex or AVR instruction sets.
- Experience with basic firmware bring-up, scripting, or C programming for hardware validation.
- Practical knowledge of DFM/DFT (Design for Manufacturing / Testing) and transitioning designs from prototype to volume manufacturing.
- Experience guiding products through regulatory compliance and safety certifications (FCC, CE, UL/CSA).
Location
Candidates must reside in, or be able to commute daily to, the Greater Vancouver area of British Columbia. This is an on-site role based at our headquarters. Remote applications and candidates requiring relocation assistance will not be considered.
