We're hiring a Robot Deployment Engineer to receive, configure, deploy and support our fleet of commercial service robots, from Gausium, AgiBot, Unitree, Keenon, and others.
Wrangling robots:
You'll get robots out of the crate and working for demos, pilots and long-term customer deployments.
Developing Our Systems:
When the fleet doesn't need you, you'll build our fleet management software. Under the direction of our Technical Director you will employ AI-assisted (agentic) coding practices using VS Code inside Dockerized dev containers with source control on GitHub.
This role suits someone who is equally comfortable with an Allen wrench, Wi-Fi access points, and pull requests.
What you'll do
Robot Deployment Operations (primary)
• Receive and inspect new robots on arrival: unbox, check for shipping damage, verify serial numbers and accessories, and log each unit into inventory.
• Commission robots: update firmware, register devices with vendor apps and cloud portals, calibrate sensors, and build or import site maps.
• Configure and deploy robots for demos, pilots and long-term customer sites, including routes, schedules, charging docks, elevator or door integrations, and safety zones.
• Troubleshoot hardware, software and connectivity faults on site and remotely; work with vendor support to resolve issues and arrange RMAs.
• Set up local networks for robots: wired and Wi-Fi, with a gateway, DHCP, static reservations and basic firewall rules.
• Perform preventive maintenance: batteries, brushes, filters, wheels, consumables and cleaning.
• Train customer staff on day-to-day operation and basic recovery.
• Write and maintain deployment checklists, site surveys and runbooks.
Fleet software development (when robot operations demand is low)
• Build and improve our fleet management software using agentic coding tools in VS Code.
• Work inside Dockerized development containers and keep dev environments reproducible.
• Use GitHub for branching, pull requests, and code review.
• Write integrations and scripts against vendor robot APIs and SDKs for monitoring, task dispatch and telemetry.
• Turn field experience into feature lists, bug reports and tooling that make the next deployment faster and more capable.
What you bring
• Diploma or degree in mechatronics, electronics, computer engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Demonstratable experience deploying, maintaining or troubleshooting robots, automation equipment or similar electromechanical systems.
• Comfort in communicating with and servicing commercial clients.
• Exceptional delivery of professional, customer-facing demonstrations.
• Ability to learn new platforms quickly from vendor documentation.
• Intermediate networking knowledge: IP addressing and subnets, DHCP, DNS, gateways and routing basics, Wi-Fi setup (SSIDs, bands, WPA2 / WPA3), and the ability to stand up a small wired and wireless network from scratch.
• Software development experience. Working with VS Code, Docker and dev containers, and Git / GitHub workflows (branches, pull requests, reviews).
• Strong competence using AI coding assistants or agents to write, debug and refactor code, with the judgment to review and test what they produce.
• Comfort on the Linux command line, including SSH, logs and basic scripting.
• Methodical troubleshooting habits and clear written documentation.
• A passion for making robots useful to humans.
Nice to have
• Direct experience with robots.
• Familiarity with ROS / ROS 2, SLAM and mapping, or robot navigation concepts.
• Python, TypeScript or Go experience.
• Exposure to MQTT, WebSockets or other robot and IoT protocols.
Working conditions
• Hybrid work environment: split between home, customer sites and office.
• Travel (mostly local) to customer sites for assessment, pilots and deployments.
• Able to properly lift and move up to 25 kg (55 lb) without assistance.
• Occasional early, evening or weekend work to deploy at customer sites outside their business hours.
• Valid driver's licence and access to reliable transportation preferred.
